Bikini Girl Model: Beautiful Ladies In Swimsuits
Even in these economic times, the swimwear and bikinimarket is still expanding. Being a bikini or swimsuit model is not the same as being a fashion model. The requirements are much more rigid for fashion models. Height and measurements for swimsuit and bikini models are not as strict. Fashion models generally are required to be between 5'9" and 6' with measurements of about 34-24-34. Most agencies along with these criteria are looking for a "look". Fashion and swimsuit models can both have something of their own look; they are definitely a type but different types. Look at your fashion magazines you will see it. Some other qualifying factors are being very slim, and having a generous bust size (C or more).
If you fit these prerequisites and have decided you would like to foray in to the world of swimsuit or bikini modeling there are several things you can do to help your rise to the top. Enter competitions to be noticed. Many bars and nightclubs have contests, and if you live in or near a beach community, sometimes contests are sponsored on the beaches as well. Enter as many as you can. Practice before, afterward and in between. Take practice photographs also so you can get an idea of your best angles. Ask for help from a professional photographer if you know one.
Some will do this for a fee. Try to go to fashion shows or get some type of job in the industry, you will be able to network. Look on the network websites also (Facebook, Myspace etc.) to find out what going on locally. Workout religiously, you have to be in top shape to stand even the smallest chance. You can also approach swimwear and bikini companies. Look for opportunities to be in ads for your family and friends companies, maybe someone you know owns a surf shop. If you do this, make sure to get copies of the pictures to add to your portfolio.
After you have gathered a small portfolio of pictures and done, and hopefully won some bikini contests, your next step is to go to auditions. These are called "Go See's" in the modeling world. Search the papers, trade papers and online for opportunities. This also gives you a chance to be seen by other models and agents. Modeling agencies also hold periodic open houses for swimsuit and bikini models.
Learn all you can about modeling, agencies and auditions, read up. Make sure you portfolio is organized; it must include several headshots and different poses. Keep alert for fashion shows in your local malls and large chain department stores. These are great opportunities for exposure.
You may want to consider getting an agent as some point. First, send your pictures and resume to all of the modeling agencies near you. If they feel you might be right for them they will call and ask for an audition. Try to pick agencies that are well known if possible. Ask for references and credentials before you even consider signing a contract and when you do sign it's advisable to sign a non-exclusive one or two year one.
Many photographers have connections for models that could lead to jobs. Make sure your resume is current and includes your height, size, weight, measurements, previous training and work history. The idea is to select a well-known and established photographer so that they can capture the best you.
As you gain exposure you'll realize there are many career paths you can take as a swimsuit and bikini model. There are fashion shows, magazine ads, television ads, and of course catalogs. As you gain more and more experience and your reputation grows, you will be offered more and more work.
